Getting Started
1. Allow microphone access
When you first launch TuneKit, allow microphone access. The app needs live microphone
input to detect drum pitch.
2. Start listening
Tap the microphone button in the top-right corner, then strike the drum once. TuneKit will
lock onto the hit and show the frequency in Hz with the nearest musical note.
3. Choose a mode
- Live: Read the pitch of each hit and compare it against a manual target.
- Lug Match: Move around the drum one lug at a time and compare each lug against a reference.
4. Tune more accurately
- Strike near the rim when you are matching lugs around the head.
- Strike closer to the center when checking the drum's main note.
- Use clean, single hits and let the reading settle before adjusting tension.
Troubleshooting
The app is not hearing the drum
- Make sure microphone access is enabled in iOS Settings for TuneKit.
- Tap the microphone button so the app is actively listening.
- Use a physical iPhone. The main experience depends on live microphone input.
- Reduce background noise and strike the drum with a clear, single hit.
The reading feels unstable
- Move closer to the drum and avoid extra vibrations nearby.
- Use consistent strikes rather than repeated buzzing or multiple impacts.
- Wait for the hit to lock before turning the tension rod again.
Lug Match is not giving even results
- Confirm you selected the correct lug count for the drum.
- Strike each lug in a consistent position near the rim.
- Reset the pass and retake all lugs if one hit was clearly off.
Tip: If microphone access was denied earlier, open iPhone Settings, find
TuneKit, and enable Microphone access there.
